Spring Into Action: Tips for Homeowners

Spring Into Action with these great home cleaning tips and reminders!

Whether you are putting your home on the market or just sprucing things up Spring is a GREAT time to get to those projects that you may have been putting off or getting your home in the best ‘Show Shape’ for potential buyers and more $$$$ on the sale.  These helpful hints and reminders are a good place to start and help alleviate many issues that come up on a home inspection report as well. 

On the Exterior
  • Clean gutters and downspouts
  • Rake pine needles and get ready for some landscaping
  • Touch up peeling or damaged paint
  • Wash all windows
  • Install or clean screens on windows and doors
  • Clean outdoor furniture and air out cushions
  • Turn on landscaping sprinklers and run through the cycle to make sure all sprinklers are running correctly with no outages or clogged heads
  • Service your lawn mower
  • Fertilize your lawn
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
  • If you have a sump pump, test by dumping a large bucket of water into the basin of the sump pump
  • Walk around the exterior and open crawl space vents at the foundation
  • Prune trees and shrubs
  • Remove lint from dryer exhaust vent with a long flexible brush
  • Replace your doormats so they are new and welcoming
  • Power wash exterior walls, porch floors, decks/patios and driveways
On the Interior
  • Wash and change seasonal bedding
  • Dust blinds and vacuum curtains throughout
  • Deep clean the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and throw away outdated food, medicine and cosmetics
  • Change or clean heating, ventilating and air conditioner filters as required
  • Vacuum heating ducts at the venting source and air return filter casings
  • Clean kitchen appliances inside and out, including refrigerator coils
  • Maintain clean drains by adding a 1/2 cup of baking soda followed by a 1/2 cup of white vinegar.  After 10 minutes, flush with boiling water
  • Re-caulk or re-seal grout lines in the kitchen and bathroom areas as needed
  • Wipe walls and ceilings, especially in bathroom and kitchen areas or other highly trafficked hallways
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpets, baseboards and deep clean hardwood or vinyl floors
  • Dust thoroughly including hard to reach places
  • Polish metal door and window hardware (especially your front door if you are putting your home on the market…this is a first impression and keys should work effortlessly too)
  • Oil Door hinges
  • Re-organize and clean closets, attic and basement areas
  • Remove and donate unwanted items or recycle old electronics…Spring is a great time for a garage sale if you want to make some extra cash selling your unwanted goods

17 New Listings Of these new listings HOT Buys include 861 Jeffrey (the only single family home listed under $500K), 2 Somers Drive and potentially 978 Glenrock on the creekside.

Active Inventory on the Market in March 2013

Condominiums were down -53% over March 2012 and up 4% over February 2013

PUD’s or Planned Unit Developments were down -84% over March 2012 and down -16% over February 2013

Single Family Homes were down -53% over March 2012 and up 5% over February 2013

March 2013 Escrows UP Across the Board

Condominium escrows were up 47% over March 2012 and up 20% over February 2013

PUD escrows were up 80% over March 2012 and even with February 2013

Single Family Homes were up 51% over March 2012 and down -16% over February 2013

Condominiums were up 57% over March 2012 and up 36% over February 2013
